Introducing Kingdom Keys

I am going to jump straight into this review by saying that I am absolutely addicted to the music by Kingdom Keys so this review NEEDED to be done. Why? Because as you all know I support the music that matters to me!

I guess I better explain who Kingdom Keys are and why I rate them so highly. This Norfolk band is made up of Sam Cook (lead vocals, acoustic), Daniel Bareford (guitars, vocals), Danny de Ara (guitars, vocals), Simon Benefer (keys, vocals), Jay Harrison (bass, vocals) and Jake Graham (drums) who together create a sound which they describe as melodic rock/pop. I was first introduced to the band earlier in the year, but at the time they were working on their debut EP ‘Beyond What You See’ so there was not a lot of their music about at that time. From the snippets they fed us through their social media sites this was a band that had something that really grabbed my attention.

July saw the guys unleash ‘Beyond What You See’ EP on to the world and I was excited to find out if it lived up to my expectations. Well, as the start of the review shows, it did. When I first listened to the EP from beginning to end and reflected on what I just heard, the first thing that impressed me was how the overall sound was impressively strong. I couldn’t get over the fact that these guys have only been together since 2015, as the quality of their songwriting is of such a high standard and the EP feels like they have been together a lot longer than that. These guys definitely share the same vision on the type of music that they want to create which can be heard on each song as the band come together to deliver their killer blend of rock/pop. One of the main reasons Kingdom Keys stood out for me was the lyrics and how they were shared by the vocal talents of Sam. This combination helps to give each song a captivating level of emotion that gets you singing along thanks to the catchy hooks which the highlight songs ‘The Truth’ and ‘We are Kings’ perfectly showcases.

As for my favourite song, this one was easy as ‘You are not Alone’ stood out for me on my first listen. On the second listen I found myself singing along to majority of the song which is rare for me as I listen to so many songs so I find it difficult to retain so many lyrics. However with this song I did and again this is a credit to their songwriting with their infectious lyrics. There is something about the soul of this track that seems to tick all the right boxes for me. I recommend you give it a listen as it has everything that makes the music of Kingdom Keys stand out for me.

I am loving 2016 as there has been so many outstanding releases and ‘Beyond What You See’ EP stands easily amongst my favourites. It’s going to be a tough to pick my top 5 releases when the year ends, so much quality! As you can tell, I am a big fan of what Kingdom Keys have created and I can’t wait to hear what they release next. They have set the bar high because of the strength of this debut release so they will need to bring something even stronger to meet or exceed my expectations.
